2025 DC Day of Play

On April 16, 2025, the DEA Educational Foundation (DEAEF) partnered for the second year with the DEA Washington Division’s Operation Engage to bring hands-on youth activities to DC’s Day of Play—an outdoor event hosted by Events DC. With more than 4,000 attendees filling the outdoor space known as The Fields at RFK Stadium, the event was a huge success, offering families from across the Washington, D.C. region a full day of free games, healthy fun, and community connection.

This annual event, organized by Events DC, brings together community organizations, city agencies, and local families during D.C. Public Schools’ spring break. Designed to get kids and families moving, playing, and trying new things, DC Day of Play lives up to its name—and the DEAEF was proud to once again be part of the action.

Throughout the day, DEAEF hosted several high-energy youth activity stations that were buzzing with excitement from open to close:

Science Comes Alive with BabyScientist, Inc.

At the BabyScientist, Inc. station, founder Dr. McDowell engaged students with hands-on science experiments and demonstrations. Through fun, interactive learning, kids were introduced to basic science concepts, explored the effects of chemicals on cells, and even got a glimpse into what a career in science might look like. Dr. McDowell also spoke about how making smart, positive decisions early in life can help kids pursue big goals—whether they dream of becoming a scientist, athlete, artist, or anything in between.

Building Confidence Through Movement

A capoeira instructor from Roda Movements led DEAEF Martial Arts sessions that introduced young participants to the Brazilian martial art known for its rhythmic, acrobatic style. Students had the chance to try basic capoeira movements while learning about self-discipline, focus, and the value of teamwork.

“Events like DC Day of Play are so important. They remind us how powerful play can be in building community, introducing new skills, and showing kids all the healthy, fun paths available to them.”

Baseball with Coach Julian Lee

Meanwhile, at the DEAEF Youth Baseball Program station, Coach Julian Lee ran baseball drills and activities that emphasized healthy living and sportsmanship. Youth of all ages rotated through engaging stations and had the chance to win small prizes, all while being encouraged to stay active and pursue positive goals.

Hoops with the DEA

One of the most popular attractions of the day? A simple basketball hoop in which the DEAEF assisted to obtain. Kids lined up for the chance to shoot hoops and play mini games with DEA agents. It wasn’t just about the game—it was about building trust, sharing laughs, and reinforcing that law enforcement and prevention go hand in hand.

In addition to DEAEF’s contributions, the DEA hosted its own prevention station, where special agents spoke with families about drug prevention and the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle. Free snacks, upbeat music, and a variety of food trucks rounded out the festival atmosphere of the day.

With picture-perfect weather and activities for every age, this year’s Day of Play was one for the books. DEAEF is already looking forward to returning in 2026—and continuing to support joyful, drug-free futures for Washington, D.C. youth.
